Exchange of Traditions

Indonesian batik, music, dance and food, a presentation of Belarusian costumes, Chinese calligraphy, Ukrainian headscarf tying and workshops on making Kuyavian paper flowers – these are just some of the attractions prepared for the Exchange of Traditions – an intercultural family picnic organised by the Ethnographic Museum in Toruń on Sunday, 15th June 2025.
The graduates from Indonesia were strongly involved in organizing the event.
On Saturday, 14th of 2025, until 2:10 a.m., Indonesian graduates and students prepared for the Exchange of Traditions, cooking dishes such as pastel tutup, risol mayo, and es teh. In the kitchen of the NCU Copernican Integration Center, they were helped by colleagues studying in Warsaw and a UMK student from Tanzania.
On Sunday 15th of June 2025, the group's involvement in the event was divided into two parts at the Ethnographic Museum in Toruń. One part was on duty at the food stand, and the other prepared workshops on painting fabrics using the traditional method (batik). The picnic participants could also play the gong or drum of the traditional Indonesian percussion orchestra - gamelan. In the afternoon, there was a concert of music played in a gamelan ensemble from Warsaw - the only band in Poland presenting traditional Indonesian music from Central Java. Traditional Indonesian dance was also presented.
Dr hab. Magdalena Barwiołek, prof. UMK - NCU Vice-Rector for International Relations (dressed in pink)- visited the event and specialy - the Indonesian stands.
After two very engaging days, graduates and students felt tired but very satisfied.
